Sarah Brace Shares her Opinion

Vending Machines at Buckner
  Elementary? -Sarah Brace
Have you heard or seen people eating very unhealthy things for lunch and snack? They are eating candy from Halloween, cupcakes, cookies, and a lot of stuff with high sugar. Some snacks have more than 20 grams of sugar. Also, some people don’t have a snack at all. I, Sarah Brace, have an opinion on vending machines. Vending machines would make our school a healthier place. I think having money operated vending machines for 4th and 5th graders with healthy snacks like granola bars, apples, pretzels, pirates booty…..etc., and water would be a very healthy choice. Plus we would have no nuts whatsoever, for the kids who have allergies.
In my opinion, we should have vending machines with healthy snacks. It would help some parents not to worry about giving their kids a snack for school. They would not stress and waste time deciding, the kid could just take his/her own money and buy something from the vending machine when he/she comes in the morning. Also, it would make the parents feel relieved to know that their kids have healthy options of snacks, plus more variety than what they might have at home.
Having vending machines would teach the kids to be more independent. The kids would have to get their own money to buy what they want. They would have to choose what “they” think is best, without their parents telling them what to choose; the kids would have to make their own decisions. Wouldn’t you want your kids to make a healthy choice by themselves?
This could also tie into the 5th grade unit on economics of learning to budget and manage money in healthy way. If the kids only have a certain amount of money to spend each week, they will have to limit what they buy/get every day. In other words, to be wise/healthy with your money/decisions.

So as you have read, I hope you have taken this information into consideration. Having these vending machines would help the school become a healthier place, and not just the school, it would also make the parents’ life trouble-free.
